Main Street Gardnerville
Experience the Past
Gardnerville began as a way station along a busy wagon road filled with miners on their way to Bodie, California over 125 years ago.
German, Danish, Swiss, Chinese and British immigrants were prominent figures in the town’s growth and popularity. Then in 1898, the Spanish and French Basque shepherds immigrated into the area, tending some 13,000 sheep in Carson Valley, increased to 25,000 by 1925. Basque dining has continued to play a prominent role in Gardnerville.
Enrich the Present
Today, you can still see and feel Gardnerville’s cultural heritage.
Take a stroll along the Main Street Gardnerville and read the historic marker plaques posted on various buildings throughout the district for a sense of the historical flavor of the district. Visit our shops and enjoy a great meal. You’ll find it all on Main Street Gardnerville. (#GotItOnMainStreet)
You will notice the presence of our Basque and western history in all the new shops, businesses and buildings in our Main Street district. (#MainStreetProud) Our town takes pride in how we appear to visitors and want to invite you in to be a part of it all.
Annual fundraisers to help raise funds for revitalization projects include such annual events as Third Thursday Wine Walks (#TTWW), Freedom 5K Fun Run (#NVFreedom5k), Main Street Fall Fest (#MSFF) and the Coffin Races (#CoffinRacesNV).
