Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park

The Dangberg Home Ranch began as a log cabin surrounded by sagebrush. Today, it preserves an essential chapter in Nevada ranching history. Heinrich F. Dangberg, a German immigrant, came to Carson Valley in 1856 and prospered. He and his descendants built a ranching empire that grew to 48,000 acres. In 1905, the family founded the town of Minden and spearheaded the establishment of a bank, a hotel and several businesses. The story of the Dangberg family provides a fascinating glimpse into Carson Valley’s ranching heritage and the lives of its most influential family. The site includes eight historic structures built between 1857 and 1917.

Guided history tours take visitors through the main residence, filled with thousands of artifacts, with stories from the family’s personal and public lives. Tours are available year-round, and reservations (required) are best made by phone at 775-783-9417. The park hosts the Dangberg Summer Festival from May through September every year, with a variety of cultural events including concerts, Chautauqua, historians and more. Private rental for weddings and other private events is possible. A Douglas County park, day use includes kite-flying, birdwatching, photography and picnicking. The facility is operated by the non-profit Friends of Dangberg Home Ranch.
